The platform has been designed as a knowledge space on the health situation in Galicia, containing information relevant not only to health professionals and researchers, but also to all citizens in general.
The Consellería de Sanidade and the Servizo Galego de Saúde (SERGAS) launched today the web portal of the "Galician Public Health Observatory", an open and dynamic health data space, a "before and after" to bring information closer to citizens and professionals. The platform, which can be accessed via the URL https://observatoriosaudepublica.sergas.gal, has been developed using Drupal technology in collaboration with Balidea, making it the first Drupal project to be implemented by the Consellería de Sanidade.
Overview of the health situation in Galicia
The web portal of the Galician Observatory of Public Health has been designed as a space of knowledge about the health situation in Galicia, containing relevant information not only for health professionals, but also for researchers, journalists and, in general, all citizens.
To this end, it contains more than 400 indicators —to be increased to 700 in the coming months— that show outcomes related to health and to interventions and programmes developed by public health. These indicators are grouped thematically into areas as diverse as tobacco consumption or morbidity/incidence rates of different types of cancer according to gender, age or other factors.
The portal also provides access to data such as information on addiction, obesity rates and water quality. The “find health” section shows the different resources and activities for health promotion. It also has a sub-portal of the Galician School of Public Health, which refers to its training, research and dissemination activities.
Open Data Portal
The project has also developed the Abertos portal (https://abertos.sergas.gal/), which responds to the need to create an open data portal (Opendata) for the Consellería de Sanidad and the Servizo Galego de Saúde. This platform is designed to publish datasets for consultation or use by citizens and aims to promote transparency, citizen participation and access to information.
