The validation and evaluation process was carried out at the DomusVi San Lázaro nursing home in Santiago de Compostela.
GiDi, a research project developed by Balidea in collaboration with IDMind, the University of Vigo and the IDIS Foundation (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Santiago), reached an important milestone last week with the development of the validation and evaluation process with real users, which took place in the DomusVi San Lázaro nursing home in Santiago de Compostela.
Virtual assistant to monitor patients at home
The project, supported by the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and funded by the European Union's Eurostars-3 programme, consists of a robotic virtual assistant that allows patients to be monitored from home. The aim is to establish a permanent means of communication with patients by voice. Using speech technologies and criteria defined by healthcare professionals, GiDi monitors and classifies patients according to the severity of their condition and implements personalised action protocols. This allows healthcare professionals to focus on those patients who need immediate attention.
Successful pilot with real users
The DomusVi residence in San Lázaro, in Santiago de Compostela, opened its doors to the Balidea R&D&I team to validate the usability of the system and the users' ability to understand it in their own language. The process, which involved members of IDMind, the IDIS Foundation and DomusVi itself, was a complete success and the solution was received with great interest and enthusiasm by the centre's users.
